I have a plan, I planned it.

I have 10,500 words aprox. I'm pleased but a little alarmed. I was expecting to be further along, in fact I was expecting to have the rough draft finished before the deadline.
As it is I figure at 300 words a day for 46 days I should hit the 20k mark. But I'm concerned about one thing and looking for advice/feedback.
The most urgent is the medical stuff. My story is a suspense/thriller the medicine is (largely) background and I have a lot of insertexperimentalprocedurehere and insertrareconditionhere taking up space ( I keep it one word so as to not screw up the word count, which I have become obsessed with. I figured most of what i pick will probably be two words anyway so I'll even gain ground, more words yay!) But I'm thinking what is going to kill me is not the word count but the research, which probably won't be done by feb 15.
So my question is should I be spending more time on this now, or just keep kicking the word count and wait on the medical stuff until the editing phase?

Good Fortune w/it!!!
