One of the people I had lined up to beta isn't going to be able to do it. It's been beta'd by another person but I'd still really love to have a second set of eyes look it over. It's House/Cuddy/Wilson and it's kidfic--not everyone's cup of tea, I know. But if anyone would be willing.... Shout at me here or PM me.
[identity profile] crescent-gaia.livejournal.com
So, my House muses packed up on the first of February and have left me. It doesn't help that it's the Cameron, House, and Wilson muses who I kind of need considering that the fic is centered around those three. However, I have about 9K left, the rest of the fic planned out, and I know I can do it in a week. I'm just not sure how to make these muses come back to life - anybody have any ideas? :)

Also, there's the possibility I might need a beta, due to my scheduled one might be over happy due to just becoming an aunt to a very adorable little girl. Due to her being a very good friend of mine, I don't want to stress her out. :) I kind of need someone who knows Leverage and is up to date to the end of season 1 and some of season 2. More of the fic is under the cut and I really do mean the thing about the spoilers for nearly all of season 6.

More about the fic under here - Spoilers for nearly all of season 6 )

*big deep calming breath*

I hope everyone else who is writing is having fun. I apologize for the overuse of smilies and thanks for letting me vent.

Beta

Hi *waves*.

I've mostly finished my BigBang, and I'm looking for a beta.

It's House/Chase, and has a few graphic scenes, but no actual sex.

Comment here if you're interested, or email me at Alanwolfmoon@yahoo.com.
[identity profile] daymarket.livejournal.com
*wipes away sweat* I'm (almost) done with my Big Bang, but I'm not really all that certain concerning characterization of various characters. It's a Good Omens/House crossover, and if possible I'd actually like two betas: one who's read Good Omens before and can nitpick concerning characterizations of Aziraphale and Crowley, and one who hasn't who can tell me whether or not it makes sense to someone who's never read the book before. Also, I desperately need Britpicking and someone who can tell me if I've completely fugged up the geography of London and surrounding areas. It's a bit of a haul and I'm not really sure how to repay the favor, but I can beta in return if you want.

My Big Bang is House/Wilson, and if you're interested you can email me at a.eulin@ymail.com or just post, message, whatever. My thanks, and good luck y'all on your stories as well!

Hello all. I am only a chapter into my story but I thought that starting the search for a beta would be wise. I could work with the beta while I'm writing, or at the end when it's done. Either way works for me.

My fiction is based around House and Wilson, as friends that get closer due to House being hospitalized and Wilson deciding to help him through it. I'm being vague because I don't want to ruin it all but it's not a slash fic, it could be but only towards the end. I haven't written much so I'm not sure which direction it will actually go in.

If anyone is interested people comment or message me for more information.

I was wondering what resources people used for their medical information in their fanfiction. For my first draft, I did minimal research and just kinda went with what sounded neat. But now I need to know if what I've chosen for my patients (of which there are several) are viable diseases.

Also, where did everyone find their betas? Is there a certain etiquette in trying to find one?

Any help would be appreciated!
[identity profile] rosenskimmer.livejournal.com
Okay, I know this is terribly last minute, but I need someone to give my story a once-over. Nothing intense, as I prefer to do revisions without outside input. Honestly, I just need someone to read the thing and tell me if it completely sucks. That's it. It's a gen story, PG-13 at most, involving the whole ensemble. It's pretty serious, but has some light parts.

And, hey, if you pinch-hit for me, I'm willing to do the same. I'll read anything, any pairing or whatever. Email me at mhall@uoregon.edu if you're interested. I will be eternally grateful and sing your praises in my author's notes. And maybe send you cookies, if you want?

EDIT: Thank you benjimmy and lynnafer for such swift responses! I really appreciate it.

I am looking for a beta to help me polish up my fic. It's about 24 000 words. The first 10 000 have bee reviewed so many times that there's probably not much to do there.

Things I need help with:
-Double checking that I haven't screwed up the POV
-Fixing any areas where I've changed tense in a way that makes no sense
-catching small typos
-blending the dialogue into the narrative
-pointing out any places where the scenes don't flow together because I've forgotten to go back and write the stuff that comes in between

It's really not as rough as it seems, but I could definitely use a fresh eye as I am sick of looking at this thing.

warnings:
-R-NC17
-character death
-graphic medical content

email me at lynnafer82@hotmail.com (I'm on MSN with that name too). or I'm on AIM as lynnafer82.

I will be eternally grateful, offer loads of cookies or be an indentured slave to anyone who wants to take up this challenge.

I feel like a "FLAIL I FINISHED AND HANDED IN MY BIG BANG DRAFT" post is in order!!

Bigbangers, HOW DID YOU ALL GO?

What was your final word count? (Me, I got to 33,685.)

Were you rushing like hell to get it finished (*raises hand!*), or were you super organised and had everything ready to hand in on or before the due date? Or did you have to drop out at the last minute because you realised you wouldn't be able to get it all done in time? (That was me, too, almost. I almost lost heart a few times and if it wasn't for people who encouraged me to keep going, I'd probably wouldn't have finished. I owe those people so many thanks, it's not funny.)

How many of you are ready to collapse from writing like crazy to meet the deadline?

CAN I SAY FLAIL. FLAIL. SHARE YOUR FLAIL. Are you happy with how your fic came together? Did you find your fic frustrating or easy(ish) to write? Was it a story you'd had plotting in your mind for a long while, or was it something that you came up with as you wrote? Talk about how you went; if you panicked, if you felt confident you'd finish the story, if you reached any spots where you got stuck on your story, if you scrapped entire scenes (or even entire fics??), anything!

Share your big bang journey! (I know this is just the first draft we're talking about, but that's the toughest hurdle overcome, I say!)

Edit: Aaand... seeing there's still a fair way to go before Big Bang actually goes live, how do you feel about the editing and fine-tuning ahead of you? Got a beta? Think you'll be able to edit relatively smoothly? Think maybe you'll end up tearing your hair out?

(TOO MANY QUESTIONS, ahahaha)
[identity profile] imissimissyou.livejournal.com
Ok, so I need a beta! Simple as that!
My story features House and Cameron, though it's mostly friendship no fluff. It also angst. I don't know how much more I can tell you! I'm not completely done yet (oops, I know, I'm panicking here), but it'll be done soon. It won't be much longer than 20 000 words, so it isn't anything massive to beta, so you will have enough time.
Anyone? Please?
[identity profile] alanwolfmoon.livejournal.com
so... I've got about 40,000 words of story...

i had it at 20,00, almost exactly, and then i wrote another scene, even though it finished quite satisfactoraily. and then i wrote another scene. and another one. which eventually ended with me writing another 20,000 words, and it being 40,000 words long.

but here's the thing...

i'm not entirely sure the second half is as good as the first half.

my beta thinks i should post it, but i don't know.

anyone got an opinion?

[personal profile] bell
Right now I'm tripping through words/scenes/characterizations without letting myself think too much because that way lies writer's block! I'm happy to have ~21,000 words, but also worried because I have no idea how much longer this story is gonna want to be (despite being all pretty-oulined!).

How about the rest of you? Where and how are you?

I'd also thought of arranging a chat party/discussion-- the folk over at [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang did so, and it was fun. Plus, a great way to moan/find sympathy/like-minded people. Would anyone be interested?

ETA: If "yes" to the chat party, then also say when (approximate day/time) and where (irc, aim, google, etc) is good. :3

Pick a Plot

[identity profile] delphinapterus.livejournal.com
I'm hoping for some advice. I've started and discarded four plots now. It's getting downright silly. Last year I wrote most of the fic before deciding I hated it with a passion and scrapped it completely. I really don't want to do that again. This year I can't seem to pick one idea and stick with it. What's your advice for picking a plot and sticking to it?
bell: (upclose and personal)
[personal profile] bell
Hallo!

I know most of you probably aren't thinking of your [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang fic yet, since the deadline is so wonderfully and gently far away, but I speak of it anyway. This year's [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang mods helped the writers band themselves in support groups, and, personally it worked great; I made some great friends, got a lot of emotional and technical support in writing my story, and helped others.

I thought we could do something along the same lines here, if a bit more informally. If you're interested in meeting & talking to other bigbangers, leave a comment, or reply to someone else's comment. And this isn't just for the writers-- if you're an artist, or want to participate as a cheerleader or beta, please join in on the fray!

Information you may want to include in your comment: name, age, planned story/participation, means of contact (email and/or chat), favorite pairings, kinds of stories you like, kind of support group/buddies you'd like, favorite House moments, pet peeves (fictional or otherwise), and whatever else comes to mind. :)

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers!

Ever wish that there was a story out there, somewhere, that just happened to hit every fic kink you ever had? Perhaps you'd like to donate a plotbunny to the participants of the challenge! If you're not a writer, or if 20 000 words is very intimidating, or you'd like to pitch a few ideas in the pot, then this is the post for you! Give of your plotbunnies, and the Big Bang participants will thank you.

The Prompts Post is here for all your plotbunny needs!

The first round of House Big Bang Challenge was a huge success, bringing thirteen new Housefic novellas of at least twenty thousand words each and nearly thirty pieces of art into the fandom. The novellas in the archive represent the variety of ships and genres in the fandom, and range in subject from canon to crossovers to crack--and the art is just as varied and just as terrific. In fact, the entire challenge was was such fun that we're doing it again.

The general rules and timeline of the challenge are as follows, but they may be subject to change/revision when the Official Sign-Ups, Rules, and Important Dates are posted.

Challenge Rules for Writers
1. Stories must have a minimum length of 20 000 words. There is no maximum length.
2. Stories may be any genre: gen, het, boyslash, or girlslash.
3. The story's central element must relate to House, MD, and its characters. Crossovers and alternate universes are permitted.
4. Stories will be posted to a central site on the day the challenge goes live, with links to the summaries in this community for feedback, but afterwards may be posted to your personal journal or site.
5. The stories MAY NOT be posted, in whole or in part, prior to March 29, 2009. You may, of course, share with betas, but please keep your story under wraps as much as possible, so that the artists/vidders can make their choices anonymously when the time comes.
6. All stories must be betaed before final posting.

Challenge Rules for Artists and Vidders
1. You agree to create at least one piece of art or a vid to accompany one of the Big Bang stories.
2. Art can be of any type you wish: orginal illustration, cover art, photo manip.
3. Art or Vid can be of any rating you choose, provided that it is not more than one rating higher than your chosen fic. For instance, if your fic is G, gen, you cannot make shippy art or rate higher than PG-13.
4. You will be able to post your artwork or vid at your livejournal or site after the challenge goes live. If you'd rather, we will host your art at the Big Bang site.
5. Art and vids may not be posted unlocked anywhere on the web, in whole or in part, before March 25, 2009. Posting to betas or regular small audiencing groups is excepted, but keep the numbers down.

Round Two will begin sign-ups for writers on AUGUST 19, 2008 and run until SEPTEMBER 1, 2008. As of today, you have a whole month to decide if you'd like to be among us, so get that thinking cap on! More reminders will be posted as the deadline for sign-ups draws nearer.

Here are the Important Dates to know for Round Two:

August 19 - September 1, 2008: Sign Up Period for Writers and Artists
February 1, 2009: Finished stories are due.
February 1 - February 15, 2009 - Artists and vidders claim fic summaries.
March 15, 2009 - Artists' and vidders' submissions are due.
March 25, 2009 - Archive goes live.

So, now it's all done and dusted and all our stories look BEAUTIFUL on the website, thanks to the masterly hard work of [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu, I was wondering how fellow bigbangers felt about it all?

Relieved? Delighted? A bit flat now it's all over?

Personally I've been on a bit of a high for three days now and am only just coming down. I'm proud of everything I've written, but this one feels different; I'm really ridiculously pleased with it, keep finding myself re-reading it (which I rarely do with my fics) and am basically chuffed to bits with how it's all gone. And I'm just extremely happy that I did bigbang! It feels genuinely rewarding & fulfilling.

Anyone else want to share?
