Right now I'm tripping through words/scenes/characterizations without letting myself think too much because that way lies writer's block! I'm happy to have ~21,000 words, but also worried because I have no idea how much longer this story is gonna want to be (despite being all pretty-oulined!).

How about the rest of you? Where and how are you?

I'd also thought of arranging a chat party/discussion-- the folk over at sgabigbang did so, and it was fun. Plus, a great way to moan/find sympathy/like-minded people. Would anyone be interested?

ETA: If "yes" to the chat party, then also say when (approximate day/time) and where (irc, aim, google, etc) is good. :3

I've gotten as far as... the general idea. And that's pretty lame, because I've had the general idea in my head for at least a year now.

I have no recollection of this :P It was a pod-person, because I, with my infinite wisdom would, in no way, shape, or form, think that I was capable of writing 20,000 words.

That pod person has been in you for a while, then! Because I've heard you say on many occasions things like "here are me ideas" and "this is what me wants to write." You are in great danger! *worried!* (XD)

[Pssst, if you want, we can still talk ideas/plots? Or if it's getting started that's a problem, there's the Write or Die program which seems to work well in getting people to, well, write. Or we could do a session in which we both agree to do nothing but write for an hour-- this is surprisingly effective, in my experience.]

I haven't got very far (first scene, 2500 words or so, through betaing) because I've been finishing other fic; but that's done now, so full speed ahead now on this *cracks knuckles in anticipation*

I can chat on google, but I'm on the wrong side of the ocean so am unlikely to be able to find an appropriate mutual time :)

Ehhhh, I was thinking of having multiple sessions (at least twice before the first-draft deadline) precisely to be able to make it available to more bigbangers. And at least one other person that's asked for the chat in this post lives in Australia, so you're not alone in living on "the wrong side." :)

Hang in there! There's still quite a bit of time left, and even if the story has taken a life of its own, it may be so kind as to end it in time. :3

Google seems to be the popular choice so far, and it's easy to get-- though I'm not sure how good it is at handling big chat groups.

Heh. I should probably just officially declare that I'm out and wrap up what I've got into a smaller story. There's no way I'm going to make it :( I'm even worse off than I was last year after deleting the whole thing, so all signs point to fail.

!!!!!! Are you sure? (If it helps, I was pretty sure my story last year wouldn't be long enough-- the first draft was 13,000 words. In other words, stories can surprise by growing longer legs than you expected). It'd be really sad not to receive your contribution this year!

I'm only like, 1000 words in, half of which is probably going to get thrown out. I've got the first section outlined really well, and then sort of a vague "and then the day is saved" written in for the last, oh, 12000 words. I'm way behind, but I'm trying to stay in, because I just don't want to let this story go.

I'm paused right now, though, because I have to write about 13000 words of academic stuff and challenges before December 15. Oof.

I'm just under 19,000 words right now, which takes the word count pressure off, but I've got a lot left to write. And the first section, which is about 7300 words might work better as a prequel, so maybe not so much on the word count pressure off! I'm going to power ahead for a couple of days, but then I have to take a break to finish another story...

!!! Impressive. But maybe you should keep the first part? In my experience, ppl are more turned off if they have to read parts that aren't in the file they're currently staring at-- and that'll take the word pressure of you. :3

I had gotten pretty far by november, aroun 10 000 words, but then it has been a month and only ~100 words have been written... And now I'm wondering if I've done everything wrong because it is starting to become my kind of cliché fic...
I want to delete it all!

I had 21,000 words in like... September.

then i let it sit for about a month, in case i had any brainwaves.

then i said, okay, I'm done, and advertised for a beta.

and then, when i was going through correcting the obvious mistake, i decided to write another chapter (they're only 10 pages long), just for kicks.
then i sent to to my beta.

then i wrote another chapter.

and another.

and another.

and now I'm at 39,400-something, and i still have no idea if I'm going to include the "just for kicks" chapters.

but i think I'm done now.

maybe.

i still need to send in my last three chapies to be beta'd...

STUPID FIC ON PAPER. D: I have that problem myself-- the writing is fine, but no one online reads paper, which means they have to magick themselves to digital format *some*how.
