~18,000 words and I’m never going to make it to 20,000 and I hate my story and the world sucks and why did I ever think this was anything remotely resembling a good idea?? (The worst of it is, uh, I do have a complete first draft, I'm just trying to stick it out to make it reach the minimum.)
How’s everyone else doing? Please tell me I'm not alone in my so-near-yet-so-far stage of panic. :D

Date: 2008-02-07 12:16 pm (UTC)I'm working on the 'emotional climax' of my story right now and I just realized it doesn't have a lot of emotion. Or climax.
That's probably because I had to ditch some tension-building scenes that were nice, but didn't move the damn plot forward. The Plot, I tell you! Hmmm. Maybe they'll reappear in the final version stage ;)

Date: 2008-02-07 02:01 pm (UTC)I've since rewritten and done the edit, but while the scenes play the same way, obviously it's impossible to completely capture the language again.

Date: 2008-02-08 08:18 pm (UTC)Glad you managed to rewrite it. And, sure, you may not have recaptured the original language, but different can be better.

Date: 2008-02-07 03:23 am (UTC)...that being said - I'm sure your story is going to amazing; titles are lame and impossible to come up with; and grammar is completely overrated. (Also,

Date: 2008-02-08 09:30 pm (UTC)You know, I think I've lost all perspective here. I'm forgetting that as a reader I like nothing better than a really long story. But it's such Hell as a writer. I'm like, no one is going to want to read all this! It takes so much editing! But then how many 25,000 word fics have I read to the end of and gone, "What? That's it?" Many.

Date: 2008-02-09 12:50 am (UTC)Wilson's idea of standing up to House consists of yelling at him, psycho-analyzing him a little, and then rolling over and doing exactly what House wants again 5 minutes later
/laughs/ Yes! That sounds about right. I say you're on the right track.
(In my case, I'm not sure what my climax is? The mystery gets solved and then has to be undone and-- when I look it over, I think, THIS IS SO SILLY, WHAT WAS I THINKING. And yet I'm glad, because I've had this idea for a while, and now it's out of me.)
It takes so much editing!
TO SAY THE LEAST. Crazy amounts of editing. And if you do your job right, no one will ever know how much work it was.

Date: 2008-02-06 11:35 pm (UTC)Does that make you feel any better?

Date: 2008-02-06 11:37 pm (UTC)Not really? I'd rather you get the fic in!
I'm going to have to write not only faster than I've ever written before
Never underestimate the motivational power of a deadline. It's what gotten me this far.
